Welcome to RAF Table Tennis

The Royal Air Force Table Tennis Association warmly welcomes you to this site. These are very exciting times for RAF Table Tennis players. Whether you are currently serving, a veteran or indeed, visiting us for the first time, we hope you will find this site interesting, it will enthuse you to play and that you take a few minutes to look at our history.

RAF Table Tennis has become one of the British Military's most successful sports. The RAF men's team has been unbeaten against the Royal Navy and British Army since 1984 - a record 27 years unbeat and was awarded the prestigious Combined Services Sports Team of the Year award in 2007. The Men’s team performed outstandingly in March 2010 to retain the Inter-Service title, with players playing at the very top of their game, against international standard opposition from the Army, who year on year, continue to develop and improve their game. Our Ladies squad also shone and we are delighted the RAF have the current Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles champions. Our recent close sponsorship with ESS has enabled our players to compete in the world arena, including Beijing in 2007 and Baltimore, which allowed our players to experience world class table tennis and develop their game..

In looking back, 2009 was another exceptional year for RAF Table Tennis. Our team participated in the international standard North American Team Championships, held in Baltimore - well over 1000 players from around the world on over 160 tables. We were delighted to enter some of our promising Academy players into this tournament and can report that they all performed well throughout the 4 days of strong competition. Closer to home, back in the UK, the Men's team came very close to winning their division of the Midland League and matches against the high quality British Police squad further developed our players. The RAF Championships (Apr 10) saw many new players participate and special mention goes to SAC Chris Hancock, who was Runner-Up in the Men’s event in his first attempt, beaten by Sgt Mark Donoghue, who is now the RAF’s most successful singles player with 14 titles. In local league, RAF Odiham won the Basingstoke Division 2 title.

Looking forward, do you want to improve your ping-pong? If you are currently serving in the RAF and want to improve your table tennis ability, then we have a number of exciting options available to you, from local unit training sessions, to Festivals of Table Tennis (which caters for ALL abilities) to more formal coaching sessions. We are extremely grateful to Mr David Spencer Percival, who generously sponsors our exciting and ground-breaking DSP Academy, aimed at developing table tennis players within the RAF.

Up and coming events for players during Summer and Autumn 2010 include Academy Training sessions (including plans to coach / play in Hungary) and the Festival of Table Tennis (November 2010). If you are competing in local leagues / being coached, then we may also be able to financially assist you by refunding up to 50% of your bat rubber purchase. Whatever, you standard, if you are in the RAF and would like to play, please contact one of the committee on the Contacts List to this site. We welcome new players and are particularly keen see more females participating.

We hope you have found this site enjoyable and will visit us again soon.
